Tilt Pour Aluminum Castings
Alcast Company specializes in precision aluminum casting, offering both tilt-pour and proprietary ELECTRO-MAGNETIC bottom-fill permanent mold casting processes designed for optimal metal integrity and repeatability.
To maintain metallurgical consistency, Alcast employs the same high-efficiency holding furnaces used in the Mitchener process, ensuring precise metal delivery, minimal oxide formation, and alloy purity in every casting.
Mitchener Molding Machines
Our Mitchener Molding Machine delivers superior casting quality through controlled metal flow and consistent thermal management. However, we recognize that some applications require a tilt-pour process, particularly when existing tooling cannot be readily converted or when time constraints prevent modifications.

Hall Tilt Pour Machines
Our 2nd tilt pour permanent mold aluminum casting method is a traditional tilt pour process using both 3H and 6HÂ Hall tilt pour machines.
Hall Tilt Pour machines offer exceptional control and precision in aluminum casting, enabling Alcast Company to produce high-quality, complex parts with reduced metal turbulence and minimized porosity. These machines are designed for efficiency, providing consistent production rates and improved mold life, which are crucial for high-volume casting operations.
Low Pressure Vs Tilt Pour
Low-pressure permanent mold (LPPM) and tilt-pour casting are both methods used in metal casting, each with its own advantages. LPPM is often considered superior to tilt-pour casting for several reasons:
- Improved Metal Quality: In LPPM, molten metal is forced into the mold under low pressure, typically using an inert gas. This controlled filling reduces turbulence, minimizing the introduction of oxides and inclusions into the casting. As a result, the final product exhibits higher density and fewer impurities compared to tilt-pour casting.
- Enhanced Mechanical Properties: The reduced turbulence and controlled filling in LPPM lead to a more uniform molecular structure in the metal. This uniformity enhances the mechanical properties of the casting, making it stronger and more reliable for critical applications.
- Superior Surface Finish and Dimensional Accuracy: LPPM allows for precise control over the mold filling process, resulting in castings with better surface finishes and higher dimensional accuracy. This precision reduces the need for extensive post-casting machining, saving time and costs.
- Reduced Porosity: The application of pressure during the LPPM process helps in feeding the molten metal into intricate mold features, reducing the likelihood of porosity in the final casting. This is particularly beneficial for components that require high integrity and pressure tightness.
While tilt-pour casting can be effective for certain applications, especially where equipment costs are a concern, LPPM offers significant advantages in terms of metal quality, mechanical properties, surface finish, and porosity reduction. These benefits make the Mitchener Molding Machine preferred choice for high-performance and safety-critical components.
